Janet Ore

Janet Ore is a Teaching Professor in Montana State University’s Department of History and Philosophy where she teaches public history, historic preservation, vernacular architectural history, and twentieth-century US history. For several decades, Janet taught at Colorado State University before returning to her home state of Montana in 2016. Both at MSU and CSU, she has served as Principal Investigator on many grants with the National Park Service and US Forest Service that engage students in researching and writing about buildings and landscapes in the U.S. West. Janet’s current scholarly research, “The Toxic House,” combines vernacular architecture and environmental history by examining the interconnected environments created by a petrochemical revolution in post-World War II building materials, particularly plywood and particle board.
